Bookkeeping for Detroit Therapists and Private Practices

Monthly bookkeeping for Detroit therapists, counselors, and group practices. Books kept current and tax-ready, handled directly by Aretha.

Bookkeeping for Detroit Practices

Most of the Detroit clinicians I talk with spent years inside a larger system before they hung out their own shingle. Hospital behavioral health units, community agencies, school programs, county work. Those places teach you how to carry a caseload. Nobody hands you a lesson on running the money side of your own practice on the way out the door.

I was a licensed nurse for more than 15 years working in mental health before I ever opened QuickBooks, so the world you spend your days in is familiar to me. Now I keep the books for private practices around the country, and Michigan clinicians are a steady part of that. Everything happens remotely, so your location has never once slowed the work down. If your records have gone quiet for a while, we can start with catch-up bookkeeping and get you current before we settle into a monthly rhythm.

Monthly Bookkeeping

Transactions categorized, bank and credit card accounts reconciled, and monthly reports short enough to read between sessions. Starting at $165 a month. When something in the numbers does not make sense to you, you ask me and I explain it in plain language.

Getting Current

Books that were never started and books that were kept badly are two different jobs, and I handle both. We gather your statements, work through the periods one at a time, and give you records you can believe again. No lectures about how it got this way.

Payroll and 1099s

If your practice already has a payroll system running, I process each pay period so your clinicians and admin staff are paid correctly and on time. I also prepare year-end 1099s for associate clinicians, contract supervisors, and vendors.

Tax-Ready Records

I keep your books organized all year so your tax preparer opens a clean set of financials and gets straight to work. You stop hunting through a year of bank statements in the spring, and your preparer stops asking questions you cannot answer.

Detroit Practices I Work With

Detroit practices tend to be rooted in the neighborhoods they serve. Offices in Midtown and New Center near the hospitals, converted storefronts along Livernois and in Corktown, home offices out through Dearborn, Southfield, Ferndale, and the Grosse Pointes. Fees around here are often set with the community in mind, which makes knowing your real numbers matter even more. Private practice bookkeeping is the only kind of bookkeeping I do.

Most of the practices on my roster have between one and ten people. Some are a single clinician with a full week of sessions and a laptop. Some have grown into a team with associates, an admin person, and a waiting room that stays full. If you want to talk through where yours sits right now, book a consultation with me and we will look at it together.

Solo Therapists and Counselors

One clinician, a full caseload, and no energy left at the end of the week for bookkeeping. I reconcile deposits from your practice management system to the bank, keep business and personal spending separated, and show you what a week of clinical hours actually brings in.

Clinical Social Workers

Plenty of Detroit LCSWs move out of agency or hospital work and build a practice on modest fees and a generous sliding scale. Bookkeeping for clinical social workers keeps that kind of practice honest with itself, so you can see whether the caseload you carry is sustainable over the long run.

Group Practices and ABA Providers

Associates on splits, W-2 staff, contract supervisors, behavior technicians out in the field. I record compensation correctly, run payroll for practices whose system is already set up, and report in a way that shows what each clinician is contributing to the practice.

Telehealth and Prescribing Practices

Online-first therapy practices serving clients across Michigan, and psychiatric nurse practitioners handling medication management from a small office or a spare room at home. Platform subscriptions, merchant processing fees, and payment processor deposits all get reconciled every month so they show up honestly in your numbers.

Questions About This Area

You are in California. Can you really keep the books for my Detroit practice?

Yes, and I do it for practices all over the country. Bank feeds, statements, and reports all move online, so the distance never comes up. We talk by phone or video whenever you want, and you work with me directly every time.

What does monthly bookkeeping cost?

Full-service monthly bookkeeping starts at $165 a month. The final number depends on how many accounts you have and how much activity runs through them. I quote you after I look at your setup, and the price stays what I told you it would be.

My books are almost a year behind. Is that too far gone?

No. That is one of the most common reasons people reach out, and I have never made anyone feel bad about it. We figure out what exists, work back through the missing months, and get you current. Monthly service after that keeps it from happening again.

Do you prepare my tax return?

I do not prepare returns. I keep your books accurate and organized all year so your tax preparer receives a clean set of financials and can get right to work. Most of my clients say tax season got a lot quieter once that handoff was simple.

Do you handle insurance billing or credentialing?

No. I do not work on claims, credentialing, or coding. What I do is record and reconcile the money that lands in your bank account from your payers and your private-pay clients, so your books match reality. Your biller or practice management system handles the claims side.

Let's Start With
a Short Conversation

Tell me where your books stand right now, even if the honest answer is that nobody has looked at them in a year. I'll ask a few questions and give you a clear idea of how I can help.
